Rappel reminds you to contact people through the apps you already use. This policy explains exactly what it stores, what leaves your device, and what it never does.
The short version. Rappel works fully without an account, and in that mode nothing you enter ever leaves your phone. Signing in is optional and is what enables cloud backup, syncing between your devices, and sharing reminders with friends. Rappel contains no advertising, no analytics or tracking SDKs, and never sells or shares your information for advertising.
Your reminders, chosen contacts, activity history, and settings are stored in a database on your device only. There is no transmission to us or anyone else. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it.
Rappel never reads or uploads your address book. Contacts permission is requested only when you tap “Choose from contacts”, the picker runs on your device, and only the fields for the person you selected — their name and the phone number, email, or handle you picked — are saved. Everything else is discarded immediately.
Signing in uses your email address and a one-time code; Rappel never asks for or stores a password. Once signed in, the following is stored on Supabase’s servers so it can sync and be restored: your email address, your reminders and their activity history, an optional username, your friend connections, and a notification token identifying your device installation.
A username is optional. If you set one, anyone who types it exactly can find your account and send you a friend request — this is how friends add you without exchanging email addresses. Rappel does not offer partial or browse-style search, so your account cannot be discovered by people who do not already know your username. You can change or clear it at any time in Settings.
When you share a reminder with a friend, a copy of that reminder is sent to them — including its title, note, schedule, and the contact details it points at. If that reminder is about a third person, their name and phone number or email are shared too. Only share reminders with people you trust with that information. Sharing requires an accepted friend connection first.
Reminder notifications are scheduled by your device’s operating system and work offline, with no server involved. Notifications about other people’s actions — a friend request or a shared reminder — are delivered as push notifications, which requires storing a token that identifies your app installation. Rappel never sends a message, places a call, or starts a video call for you; it only opens the app you chose, when you tap.
Supabase hosts the database and handles sign-in. Expo delivers push notifications, which are routed through Google’s Firebase Cloud Messaging on Android and Apple’s Push Notification service on iOS. Resend sends your sign-in code email. These providers process data only to deliver those functions.
Data stays until you remove it. Deleting a reminder deletes it. Deleting your account removes your account and everything synced with it from the cloud, permanently and immediately.
You can use Rappel entirely without an account. You can export everything stored on your device as JSON, clear your reminder history, and delete your account and all cloud data from Settings → Account → Delete account. Depending on where you live you may also have rights to access, correct, or port your data — email us and we will help.
Rappel is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
If this policy changes materially, the updated date above will change and you will be notified in the app before the change takes effect.
